After graduation I decided that I would get through college as quickly as possible. I enrolled at Kent State in the summer of 1966. After four quarters, I had spent three quarters on acedimic probation. By mutual agreement, I left college and went into the Navy. A mistake, but at least I survived. When I got out of the Navy, I got married (Sharman Sherwood Class of 68) and started to work in the apprenticeship program (Stationery Enginieer) at Goodyear. Another mistake, but at least I survived. We had two children, Isham and Kyndra. (Did I forget to mention that I was a somewhat of a hippie.) At the same time I went back to Kent State. My first quarter back in school was spring of 1970. I was only taking one class to see if I had changed my ways. Lucky me, this was the quarter of the May 4th shootings (I was still working at Goodyear, but we were on strike and I was on picket duty that Monday morning). Anyway, I got into the groove, and graduated winter quarter of 1973 with a BA in psychology. This was not particularly impressive to Goodyear. After they told me that they really didn't have any use for a psychology degree, I took a job with the Social Security Administration in 1976. I was a claims representative for 5 years. Then I got divorced, remarried, divorced and remarried to my wife Ellen ( Roosevelt Class of 1969). I was promoted to the operations supervisors position in 1981, and held that job for 15 years. While I was working there, I was playing in several local country music bands. I finally formed my own band, Frontier Justice for about five years. I was also playing solo and as a duet with another member of the band during this time. Then I had a chance to relocate anywhere in the nation. I chose Panama City, Florida so that we would be close to Ellen's mother. While I was there I was the Commander of American Legion Post 356 for two years. I am still their webmaster. I spent four years in Florida before I was promoted to Aiken, South Carolina. Another mistake, but at least I survived. There wasn't much to do there so I taught myself how to make web pages. Although I loved Aiken - it was the most beautiful place I have ever lived - the job really sucked. I had an opportunity to retire early and took it. We sold our home and moved back to Panama City. I went back to school and completed the Florida State University Web Master Course. I took a year off from work, then I rejoined the world of the working. I was a Code Enforcement Officer, Director of the Animal Control Facility and webmaster for the City of Lynn Haven.
My wife Ellen and me, a picture from paradise. September of 2005 I left the city. We sold our home and moved back to Ohio. We bought a house in Twin Lakes, north of Kent. The house we bought was over 50 years old and had been maintained but never updated. We've been working on updating the house. You can take a tour of our house if you Visit Our Personal Web Page. I am back being retired and enjoying it. |
