Obituary from the Akron Beacon Journal November 6, 2008

Dr. Paul L. Wachtel, Ph.D, 75, of Canton, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton.

He was born on Thursday, September 7, 1933, in Akron. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Valedictorian of 1951 Class at Central Catholic High School, Kent State University BS Education; Akron University MA Education, Akron University Doctorate Educational Administration. As an educator and coach he taught at Tallmadge, Glenoak, and Canton Schools. He finished his public career as a principal at Glenoak High School. He then became Assistant Director of Graduate Studies at Walsh University, and was still working as an Adjunct Professor at Ashland University. During his time off from education he enjoyed sailing his boat "Nemesis." Paul also enjoyed reading, playing racquetball, golf, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Carl Grzeschik of Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Stacey Wykoff of Akron, daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Joe Davis of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, James "Bink" and Carole Wachtel of Massillon, Richard and Shirley Wachtel of Massillon, Robert "Frog" and Cookie Wachtel of Massillon, John and Gretchen Wachtel of Florida; sister, Ann Wachtel of Washington, D.C., four grandchildren, Linsey, Ryan, and John Paul Grzeschik, and Parker Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Paul W. and Florence (Smith) Wachtel, and wife, Patricia (Banco) Wachtel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, in Massillon.
